Cascais honours Stanley Ho

The avenue running adjacent to the casino’s northern entrance has been renamed in his honour as Avenida Stanley Ho, while the President of Cascais Câmara, António Capucho, has awarded the Macau gambling impresario with the Medal for Business Entrepreneurialism, Medalha de Mérito Empresarial.
It is the first time that a road has been named after a living Chinese citizen in Portugal.
Profoundly moved
Stanley Ho, who famously said in an interview that he never gambled a cent in his life at cards, slot machines or roulette, said he was “honoured and profoundly moved with the tribute from Cascais”.
“My friendship with Portugal has its roots in Macau, while my love for Portugal resides in both Cascais and Estoril,” he added in a ceremony in front of local councillors, businessmen and members of the Chinese community in Portugal on Friday in Estoril.
The Casino in Estoril, founded in 1958, is considered the largest in Europe and has played host to such entertainment names as Donna Summer, Roberta Flack, Montserrat Caballe, Woody Allen and Tony Bennett.
Part of the Estoril Sol Group, which employs over 2,000 staff, it also includes the Casino da Póvoa near Porto and Casino Lisboa.
