say no to tolls
What YOU are saying about the A22 tolls – 12
Updated: 07-Jan-2011

UPDATED JANUARY 7

Here is a selection of what YOU are saying about the introduction of tolls on the A22. Email us at saynototolls@theresidentgroup.com.

DR COLIN H KEY REMARK: I totally agree with his observation. Road tax is the lowest in the EU and should be brought in line, especially the bigger cars, which should be charged much higher road taxes. Foreign cars should pay a monthly fee to use Portugal roads, like some other European countries have introduced.

Maybe the many drivers travelling with excessive speeds on the highways should be fined. This will no doubt produce an additional high income for the government. No doubt many local drivers will avoid the A22 and use the N125, thus depleting the planned income from toll payments. The set up costs for tollbooths and the labour involved will hardly produce an justifiable return on investment.

In addition, the influx of Spanish "tourists" will be  further reduced as they will no doubt be infuriated to pay toll, also the income from them loading fuel (since the petrol prices don't differ much with Spain) and further purchases with VAT income will be depleted. MAX VAN PEER
