Temporary closure of Iceland supermarket
Updated: 17-Feb-2012

Following an inspection by authorities on February 14, the Iceland store in Guia, Albufeira, has been temporarily closed to correct labelling anomalies detected.

Under the Portuguese law, all imported products must be correctly labelled, including information in the Portuguese language, displaying ingredient content of a product, storage indications and cooking instructions.

A spokesman for Iceland confirmed that although the store translates the ingredients of all of its food products into Portuguese and places an additional label onto each product with this information, which they believed complied with regulations, they had failed to provide the additional cooking and storage information in Portuguese.

Unfortunately, they were not given a time period to correct this within and were asked to close immediately.

The Iceland team is now “working hard to resolve the labelling issue as quickly as possible and re-open with all labels abiding by Portuguese regulations”.

The store is expected to re-open at the weekend but confirmation could not be given at the time the Algarve Resident went to press.

The store management apologises for any inconvenience caused and urges customers to contact them before visiting.

Please call 289 561 564 or (0034) 965 734 000.
