A proposal by Portimão Mayor to involve citizens in the decision-making process for municipal investments was recently approved by council members.

Meeting the needs of the population is the aim of the proposal by Manuel da Luz, who wants to find the best solutions to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors to the council.

The Participatory Budgeting Plan for 2013 will enable citizens to help decide on investment projects presented by the câmara to the tune of €1 million, allowing for transparency and interaction between the population and the city hall.

Citizens aged 18 and over will be informed of projects ‘on the table’ and asked to deliberate on them.

They can also present their ideas for projects at Participatory Assemblies organised by the Câmara.

To find out how the Participatory Budgeting Plan works, please call 282 470832 or 965 630459.
