Re: Bilingual signs debate (January 27 issue)
Updated: 17-Feb-2012

Dear Editor,

On reading this report there is one most annoying factor about road signs: Why do they put them in the middle of a footpath? This is the most ridiculous place to put them; no thought into what a footpath actually is.

Also the height of some local signs is so low that you could hit your head on them if you do not look where you’re going. Try looking at other European countries and improve on what they are doing.

The road signs and information actually painted on the roads is appalling. Other European drivers at times do not realise about the various ‘do’ and ‘do not’ cross white lines as they have worn out and local câmaras cannot be bothered to renew them especially in the smaller towns.

When police stop a driver for crossing a solid white line, you can wonder what white line as it’s worn out.

Pedestrian crossings and the law regarding parking on or near a crossing are ignored. Why not put a painted line on the road sign in the international way indicating no cars etc. to park at any time?

I could go on but it takes an age for any changes.

A Stubbs, by email
