Re: Bullfighting
Updated: 17-May-2012

Dear Editor,

The cruelty suffered by the bulls is without doubt barbaric and not worthy of a civilised society. Using the erroneous statement that it is less cruel a pass-time (I really cannot call this barbarism a sport) than what the Spanish choose is pathetic.

Not only is it as cruel if not crueller. The bull is tormented and teased mercilessly in Portugal by the participants placing silly hats on the bull’s head and pulling the animal’s tail before having spears placed in its neck in order to weaken it to the point where it is unable to raise its head.

There is no dignity or respect afforded the hapless creature. Please don’t quote history as a defence. We used to throw people to the lions. Surely we have progressed or have we?
