Advertising with Algarve Resident & Open Media
Updated: 26-May-2012

Advertising can take on many guises in publications through the world. Choices of media can include advertising in printed publications, online through a website or blog, or as part of an “app”.

Some publishers make buying space complicated and confusing, with no fixed layouts or sizes, tying clients into contracts and payment systems. Some even make it too easy; taking whatever is thrown at them with no thought or advice as to the client’s exact needs and expectations and whether the advertising content and the publication is the aimed at the right market to bring the correct results.

We are none of the above. We value our clients at the Algarve Resident, taking the time to listen to the market they you are looking for and tailoring an advertising program to help achieve the best from marketing spend.

This document is here to help you our current and potential clients to decide on the best form of advertising for you or your company, and to give some pointers in choosing the best publication, media, and style of advertising to suit you and / or your business and to give you the best results for your money.

Types of Advertising

Advertising types generally include classified advertising (small ads), run of paper / display advertising (ROP) and advertorial.

Classified Advertising (Small Ads)

Historically, classified advertising have been for the announcement of births, deaths and marriages. More recently, classified advertising has been used to facilitate the sale of items ranging from houses through to clothes, as well as births, deaths and marriages. These advertisements are usually words, but are sometimes accompanied by photographs to help display the item(s).

Advertorial

Advertorial is neither advertising, nor editorial. Editorial is usually written by a journalist, or editor of the publication in which it is printed and is independent in content. Advertorial is advertising that takes the disguise of being editorial but is not independent.

Have you ever heard the phrase “a picture tells a thousand words”? Clients who are buying advertorial have a different need. They may want to expand the text with the use of technical terms, or need to explain a system or process which cannot be seen in an image.

Advertorial is always headed with the words “Advertorial” or “Advertisement” in small print to differentiate independent non-biased editorial and reporting from information submitted by a client for publication without editing or change.

ROP / Display Advertising

This type of advertising consists of the larger adverting usually in printed publications. These advertisements are placed throughout the publication in the most part, with no fixed position or page, usually on a random basis.

These types of advertisements are usually the more expensive due to the placement and position of the content. Due to their size, they are more likely to be seen by those reading editorial or news content, above those who are looking to buy a car or sofa or looking for a trade or service such as a plumber or painter.
