€13 million to replenish Algarve sands
Updated: 29-Jun-2012

Ten beaches along the Algarve coast are set to be included in a three year project to replenish beach sand.

The investment that will cost €13 million gives first priority to the Dona Ana beach in Lagos, which will receive work costing an estimated €1.79 million to increase the beach size by 40 metres.

Lagos Mayor, Julio Barroso said: “It is important for this work to be completed quickly.”

A further €2.5 million will be invested on the beach of Mareta in Vila do Bispo and the same amount will be spent in Lagoa, on Carvoeiro, Praia Nova and Cova Redonda beaches, plus Castelo and Coelha in Albufeira.

By 2015, Portimão beaches of Careanos, Amado and Três Castelos are also planned to be replenished, costing €6.2 million.
