Air traffic controllers set to strike again
Updated: 29-Jun-2012

Further protests against government austerity measures including salary cuts, will initiate air strikes by Navegação Aérea de Portugal (NAV) and TAP airline employees  today (June 29).

Strikes by NAV workers are then scheduled to continue into tomorrow (June 30), July 1, 2 and 3, affecting mass air traffic in and out of Portugal.

Pilots of TAP airlines are  due to strike between July 5 and 6, and August 1 and 5.

The protesting of air traffic controllers and pilots is expected to affect hundreds of flights and is said by the Director of Turismo do Algarve to “ensure disastrous effects on the already weakened tourism industry.”

This period of strikes follows on from recent protests carried out throughout May 11 to 25, which disrupted the air travel of over 300 flights throughout Portugal, due to cancellations, delays and rescheduling.
