This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the ‘new’ Coventry Cathedral. The evening will dwell for a moment on historic film taken from Luftwaffe aircraft of the destruction of the old cathedral, as well as the present day ministry of reconciliation, including twinning with German towns and cathedrals that suffered from bombing by the allies, and its ‘cross of nails’ emblem.
Tony will tell of how he was shot down in his Spitfire, joined the legendary 617 Squadron (The Dambusters) and, in his own words, will describe the story of the bombing and destruction of the notorious battleship Tirpitz, where many lives were lost, although the end of the war was brought nearer.

| | After the war, Tony enjoyed a varied lifestyle. Over more recent years he has gone to great personal lengths to meet with his erstwhile enemies, those in the air and those rescued from the scuttled battleship, and his warm reception by and for these former foes has been a great contribution to reconciliation on a wider scale between the former warring nations.
Most recently, Tony worked tirelessly during his time as Chairman of the Bomber Command Association for the establishment of the memorial to those from that Command who gave their lives in the Second World War. The Memorial stands in the Green Park.
Attendance to the evening will cost €25 per person, which will include a three course meal with table wine and soft drinks.
All proceeds of the event will go to St Vincent’s Chaplaincy and its charities.
