Resorts receive national tourism prizes

At an awards ceremony presided over by the Secretary of State for Tourism Cecília Meireles, awards under the ‘New Private Project’ category went to the Congress & Medical Spa in Covilhã, and an honourable mention was given to the Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel in Vila do Bispo.
The best ‘New Public Project’ saw the Jardim da Condessa in Sintra receive the winner’s award and Ruínas Romanas de Tróia in Setúbal received honours.
In the best ‘Private Rehabilitation Project’ category, the award was presented to the Lagos golf and beach resort, Onyria Palmares, with honours going to another Algarve based resort, the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa in Praia da Rocha, Portimão.
The Rota Histórica de da Linha de Torres, with facilities in various Portuguese districts, won the best ‘Public Rehabilitation Project’, with honours awarded to the Jardim Botânico do Faial, located in the Azores.
The Alentejo based Queda Livre – Activities and Animation Tourism Centre, received an honourable mention under the best ‘Services’ category.
Prizes received in the best ‘Events’ category included the America’s Cup World Series 2011 in Cascais and honours were received by the Porto, Serralves em Festa event.
In the ‘Environmental Sustainability’ category, the Inspira Santa Marta Hotel in Lisbon was given the winner’s award and Tavira’s Hotel Vila Galé Albacora received honourable mention.
