Other fires this week
Nearly 80 firefighters and three helicopters were involved in the operation to put out the flames in an area near Quinta do Lago.
On Monday, Tavira Mayor Jorge Botelho, São Brás Mayor António Eusébio and PS party leader José António Seguro were visiting fire victims in São Brás de Alportel when another fire broke out in the nearby location of Montes Novos, in the Loulé council.
The fire started at 2.30pm near Javali and Parises, two areas of São Brás badly affected by the recent fires, but the speedy intervention of 84 firefighters, five firefighting helicopters and two Canadair planes meant the fire was put out later that day at 8.42pm, according to the Civil Protection website.
Another fire re-ignited in Tafe (Tavira) on the same day but was brought under control soon after.
