Re: Article ‘The hills and coast of Alentejo’ by Nigel Wrigh
Updated: 03-Aug-2012

(Algarve Resident, July 27)

Dear Mr. Wright,

I was enjoying your article on the hills and coast of Alentejo until I got to the piece where you describe Odeceixe’s smaller beach (Adegas beach) as being “blemished by the presence of a large group of very corpulent nudist bathers!”

It seems unlikely but nevertheless true that you failed to notice the large sign which says that this beach is an official Naturist beach where one would expect to find nudist bathers.

Your description of their body shapes seems extremely prejudiced and unkind. Perhaps you should check your facts before you write your next article.

For your information there are two official naturist beaches on the Algarve - Odeceixe is on the border of the Alentejo and the river marks the divide I believe.

The beaches in question are Praia do Homem Nu on the Ilha de Tavira and Adegas beach (Odeceixe) and now I believe that the deserted island which is accessed by a boat from the main land is also official.

Jane Kendrick

Not a corpulent nudist bather for your information but a slim nudist bather
