Mamamaratona - run for life
Updated: 10-Aug-2001
The Race for Life cancer run in the UK provides us with specific guidelines for gym workouts. They state that working out in a gym is good because you are in a safe, monitored environment, and you can build up slowly at your own pace. These programmes are just guidelines for you to use. Start slowly but always keep in mind your goal of working up to 3 to 4 times per week for maximum benefit. Brisk walking or a swim can be an alternative on the days that you do not go to the gym.
Remember, there are more benefits from exercising than merely getting yourself ready for the MAMAMARATONA. Regular exercise can increase your energy level, improve your strength – especially for your heart, keep your vessels open and clear, lowe blood cholesterol, enhance immune functions, increase your metabolic rate, regulate your blood sugar levels – and more! Many studies have shown that regular physical activity reduces the risk of breast cancer.
