Flooding in Albufeira
Updated: 02-Oct-2008

Dear Editor,

I am writing to you concerning the recent flooding in Albufeira old town.

My friend Liza Gallinari ran a hair and beauty salon from the California Shopping centre but her shop was completely destroyed by the flood last weekend.

Her shop was submerged under five foot of water and literally everything was destroyed.

Although there has been much heavier rain in Albufeira in previous times, this catastrophe has not occurred before.

The current thinking is that the recent extensive renovations by the local Câmara to the old town area may have affected the drainage system and caused the flooding of the centre.

Needless to say, my good friend Liza is devastated as she really put her heart and soul into her shop and has lost thousands of euros worth of equipment and stock.

She has been in the wreck of her former premises all week cleaning up the revolting mess (the flood of course dredged up the sewage system so you can imagine the mess).

Michael Cosgrove,

By email
