Johnny Hooper presented the new wheelchair to Adriano dos Santos at a champagne reception, which took place at Johnny Hooper’s Saxophone Bistro in Albufeira last month.
Adriano dos Santos was paralysed in a diving accident 20 years ago and has been making a daily 15km round trip from his home in Ferreiras to Albufeira by pushing himself in his manual wheelchair.
Generosity
John Thompson, the director of the company that supplied the wheelchair, Fairprice Mobility, arranged for it to be flown from Scotland with engineer Sean Burger, to make sure that the chair was set up smoothly and without any technical problems.
Johnny Hooper said: “We couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming generosity of the local expats and tourists who made their contributions during my performances in Albufeira Town Square.” He added: “A huge thanks goes to John Thompson of Fairprice Mobility for very kindly providing the chair at a reduced cost so that Adriano could receive it so much sooner than expected.”
