The club, which is the 40th International Rotary Club in Europe, conducts its meetings and business in English.
The formal application for membership of Rotary International was signed by the District Governor Teresa Mayer in August and approved on September 2, as club number 80155.
The club is due to celebrate its inauguration this month with a lunch at Pousada São Brás de Alportel when the Charter Certificate will be formally presented.
Until the renovations at Estoi Palace have been completed, the club’s weekly meetings will be held at Arte Cultura Gastronomia in Estoi every Tuesday at 1pm, comprising lunch and usually a speaker. The new club is open to consider membership applications to join their existing charter members and visiting Rotarians are also welcome to join the meetings.
Rotary International is a fellowship and service organisation with more than 1.2 million members in 32,000 clubs in 200 countries.
